EVU Financial Report 1998

The turnover in 1998 amounted to 11.938,72 DM and expenses were 9.246,17 DM. That means that the financial year ended with a budgetary profit of 2.692,56 DM. This sum seems to be much better than in previous years, but due to the commitment of the secretary in the preparation of this congress, major expenses of the year 1998 do not appear in this report yet. The expenses of 1998 that appear in the report of 1999 are 3806,25 sFr = 4643,63 DM. On the whole that means a loss of 1951,07 DM. All the income and expenses in connection with the congress are not mentioned here. The assets of the EVU per 31.12. 1998 including the German and Dutch giroaccounts and a Dutch savings account amount to a sum of 12.540,23 DM. Most of it is on the accounts in the Netherlands and will be needed in the near future for the marketing of the label. The most expensive sector is still our magazine "EVU News", mainly printing costs and postage. But this item is our most important means of communication between our members, and as far as I can see at the moment, there is no chance of reducing these costs. So we hope first of all for a financial success of this congress, which seems realistic, and for some income through the label. Otherwise we will have to reduce our activities. At the beginning of 1999 we had a review of all members on our list, whether they had paid their contribution and herewith expressed their intention to stay a member of EVU, or they had not paid and ceased to be a member. At the moment, we have 193 names on our membership list, 62 member societies, 13 associate organisations, 100 individual members, 7 families, 8 individual life members, and 3 others. There are several free memberships, especially in the eastern part of Europe, and several exchange addresses with other magazines or friendly organisations. The main financial issue for the coming years (besides the magazine) will be the marketing of the label.
