Christopher Fettes was born in England in 1937. He got a degree in English and French at Dublin University. He became a vegetarian in 1966. He became an Irish citizen and helped (re)found the antivivisection society (1970) and the Vegetarian Society (1978). European Secretary of the IVU (1982). Initiated the Irish Green Party in 1981, and stood for the European Parliament in 1984. Will soon retire after 30 years as a housemaster in a Dublin boarding-school, in order to help others establish an eco-village on an estate he bought in 1991.
