Widnau, 23. 7. 1999

At the occasion of the 7^th European Vegetarian Congress in Widnau from July 18^th- 23^rd 1999, an unfortunate incident occurred, the cause of which could not yet be ascertained. It is assumed that some participants are suffering from a case of food poisoning. The immediate action taken by the Widnau authorities and the regional health services ensured the quick medical treatment of the congress participants affected.

The European Vegetarian Union (EVU) would like to point out that this incident has nothing to do with the vegetarian lifestyle but is linked to events beyond the control of the EVU.

The Congress, which was deemed very successful by more than 300 participants from 29 countries, will be continued as planned.
