World Vegetarian Day 2008

Wednesday 1st October

BE CHARITABLE - DO SOMETHING FOR SOMEONE TODAY
For this year=92s World Vegetarian Day, why not think about doing something for someone or for a charity. Being a compassionate vegetarian also means what you can do for others, as well as what you can do to further vegetarianism, so why not combine the two.
Here are some ideas on what you can do (along with some resources and links to websites at the bottom of the page):

  • Cook a vegetarian meal for an elderly neighbour.
  • Help out at a soup kitchen and let them know that it is World Vegetarian Day.
  • Volunteer your time at a vegetarian or vegan organization or society.
  • Set up a stall and give free vegetarian food, information leaflets, and vegetarian recipes to the public.
  • Make vegetarian food and take them to other charities you are a supporter or potential supporter of, e.g. a local environmental charity.
  • Make vegetarian food for a school or college fete, where the proceeds can go to charity.
  • Give vegetables and vegetarian food to the church or community centre for the homeless.
  • Give a talk on vegetarianism, food waste and poverty.
  • Donate to a vegetarian charity that provides food to the poor and hungry, e.g. VegFam, Food for Life Global and HIPPO.
  • Donate to a vegetarian charity that helps the elderly, e.g. Vegetarian for Life Limited.
  • Donate to a vegetarian charity that supports young vegetarians, such as vegetarian orphanages, or promotes vegetarianism to the wider public, e.g.= Vegan Outreach.
  • Donate to a charity that does nutritional research to promote the benefits of a healthy plant-based diet and/or promotes alternatives to animal-ba= sed medical research, e.g. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.
  • Volunteer at or donate to an animal charity, rescue or sanctuary.
  • Do a charity fundraising event, such as a festival or gala dinner, and provide vegetarian food at the event.
  • Do an auction or raffle/prize draw where the money raised could go to an animal or human charity (please choose a charity that does NOT test or co mmission testing on animals).

So make this a charitable World Vegetarian Day and do something for others.
