Yet Another Case of BSE in Germany

The number of the "mad cows" in Baden Wuerttemberg rose to nine. The Ministry of Agriculture in Stuttgart informed that the "Tuebinger Bundesanstalt für Viruskrankheiten der Tiere" (Federal Institution for Virus Diseases of Animals) confirmed a new case concerning a five-year-old cow.

All over Germany there are now 103 acknowledged BSE cases, 50 of which have been detected in Bavaria alone, an area most hit. Since the first BSE case in Baden Wuerttemberg on 11 January 2001 there have been, according to specifications of the Ministry, approximately 300,000 BSE tests. At present a killing strategy will be employed by which the age group of one year before and one year after the birth of the sick animal is to be destroyed.
