2 October - World Farm Animals Day (WFAD):

World Farm Animals Day was launched in 1983 to expose, memorialize, and mitigate the suffering of billions of innocent, sentient animals in the world’s factory farms and slaughterhouses. The date (October 2) honors the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, foremost champion of humane farming. It marks the one day a year when every person is consciencebound to do something to relieve the agony of farmed animals. To participate in WFAD, a group or individual can have a vigil, memorial service, vegetarian festival, march, picketing, leafleting, information table, lecture, exhibit, etc. In the past between 100 and 250 separate events per year were held worldwide. We invite everyone in the worldwide animal protection community to participate in 2002. more info: www.wfad.org.

World Vegan Day

On World Vegan Day, 1st November, people around the world will once again be celebrating the formation of The Vegan Society almost 60 years ago and the compassionate lifestyle it promotes. This year there will be a whole week of celebrations as The Vegan Society launches UK Vegan Week. The week will start (as British Summer Time ends), running from Sunday 27th October to Sunday 3rd November, having been kicked off at The Vegan Society’s AGM, on Saturday 26th October. The theme for this year is the wider availability of vegan food that everyone can enjoy, in restaurants, hotels, pubs, hospitals, schools and cafes. The Vegan Society will prove vegan food can provide a healthy diet whilst at the same time avoiding animal exploitation and the wasteful use of the world’s resources. For more information about The Vegan Society or to get involved with World Vegan Day and National Vegan Week (U.K.) see the website www.worldveganday.org.
